About this role
We have an opportunity for a Kitchen Assistant/cook to work alongside the Canteen Manager to serve fresh food to Tamworth Day shift colleagues and on-site visitors at our Canteen at Brakes in Tamworth, Staffordshire. If you have previous experience cooking and food handling and currently searching for great career opportunity and new direction – you’ll go far with us. This night shift role runs Sunday to Thursday, 19.00-03.00, 37.5 hours per week.
You'll be responsible for preparing food ingredients, assisting in the cooking process and maintaining a clean and sanitary food preparation area. On a typical shift expect to cook simple meals for up to 150 internal colleagues. This varied role includes assisting in menu planning, setting up catering events, rota organisation, cashier duties and operating a till for contactless payments.
We work as a team to all undertake cleaning and washing up in the kitchen and dining areas. You'll need previous experience in cooking and food handling in a fast paced time pressured commercial kitchen environment. Excellent customer service skills along with awareness of level 3 Food Safety Supervision and level 2 HACCP are desired.

Requirements
- Previous experience cooking and food handling in fast paced commercial kitchen environment
- Ability to pick new skills up quickly in kitchen and using Microsoft Office
- Excellent customer service skills
- Awareness of level 3 in Food Safety Supervision for catering
- Level 2 HACCP
- Previous card payment experience advantageous
- Desire to learn about the business with problem-solving and positive attitude
